Welcome to Nataka Chaitra

Nataka Chaitra is a festive celebration of Kannada theatre. We are a vibrant group of like-minded people in the San Francisco Bay Area, who share in our love and enthusiasm for the performing arts.

2026 Production

Nataka Chaitra is excited to celebrate its 15th year anniversary with a tribute to the poetic richness of Sri K.S. Narasimha Swamy!

"ಪ್ರೇಮ ಕವಿ" ಎಂದೇ ಹೆಸರಾದ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ದಾಂಪತ್ಯದ ಸರಸ-ವಿರಸ, ನೋವು-ನಲಿವುಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಳ, ಸುಂದರ ಕವನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾವ್ಯಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಉಣಬಡಿಸಿದವರು. ಅಂತಹ ಹಲವಾರು ಸುಂದರ ಕವನಗಳನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದ, ಒಬ್ಬ ಅಜ್ಞಾತ ಕವಿಯ ಭಾವಯಾನದ ರಂಗರೂಪವೇ " ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ".

ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ಕಾರಂತರ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ, ಬಳೆಗಾರ ಚೆನ್ನಯ್ಯನಾಗಿ ಅಭಿನಯ. ಹಲವಾರು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರುಗಳಿಂದ ರಾಗ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟು, ಕನ್ನಡದ ಜನಮಾನಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚ್ಚಳಿಯದೇ ಉಳಿದಿಹ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್. ನ ರ ಕವಿತೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೇ ಏರಿಯಾದ ಶೇಷಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ಚಿಕ್ಕತುರ್ ರ ಮರು ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ, ರಮ್ಯಾ ಅಭಿಜಿತ್ ಅವರ ನೃತ್ಯ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆ, ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧ ಕಲಾವಿದರ ಅಭಿನಯ...ನಾಟಕ ಚೈತ್ರ ತಂಡದ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಿ...ಇವೆಲ್ಲವು ನಿಮಗೆ ಎರಡು ಘಂಟೆಗಳ ಮಧುರ ಅನುಭೂತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ನಮ್ಮದು

Mysuru Mallige

K.S. Narasimha Swamy, popularly known as the romantic poet, conveyed the sweet and bitter moments of marital life – both the pain and joy – through simple yet beautiful poems that have touched the hearts of poetry lovers. "Mysuru Mallige" is the embodiment of such beautiful poetic verses.

Play is written and directed by Rajendra Karanth, who will be featured as Balegara Chennayya in a pivotal role, this play brings to life poetic expressions, and is about capturing the emotions of an “unknown poet.”

Bay Area’s Nataka Chaitra presents the play with music by Sheshaprasad Chikkatur, choreography by Ramya Abhijith, and performances by accomplished artists. We truly believe this two-hour performance promises to give you a rich and immersive experience.

Audition for actors

Casting Needs

10 male actors (to portray ages 25–60)
5 female actors (to portray ages 25–60)

Please note: the ages above refer to the character roles, not the actors’ actual ages

Requirements

Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area
Fluency in Kannada with clear diction
Strong acting ability and stage presence

How to Apply

Prepare a 2-minute monologue in Kannada or share a prior acting video in Kannada
Submit your audition video through this form by Monday, October 13, 2025

8 female dancers (semi-classical)
6 male dancers (folk)

Requirements

Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area
Strong stage presence, rhythm, and ability to adapt to choreography

How to Apply

Submit a 2–3 minute dance video (semi-classical or folk; solo or group performance acceptable)
